Buts:
- To conjugate the verb aller
- To understand formation of contractions with the preposition à
Today we continued to work with the verb aller. We also learned about contractions formed with the preposition à and the definite articles le, la, and les.
(A preposition is a word that specifies place, direction, or time. The French preposition à means "to" or "at.")
Here are the rules, in case you were absent today:
à + la = à la ("to the")
à + le = au ("to the")
à + les = aux ("to the")
Alternatively, the above prepositions can also mean "at the."
We use à la with feminine places, au with masculine places, and aux with plural places. I passed out a list of supplementary vocabulary with some common places around town, since this chapter in the book doesn't provide you with any. Since this extra vocabulary is not a part of Chapter 5, you won't be tested on it.
